Activities
The first meeting of the NRIs parents was held on Sunday, the 30th October 2005 at 11:00AM, followed by lunch at Greenlands, Labbipet, Vijayawada. The Telugu NRIs Parents Association was born.
Shri Sukhdev Lavu of Washington DC, the then President of Washington DC Telugu Association and former Vice-president of TANA (Telugu Association of North America) attended the meeting as Chief Guest. He spontaneously and graciously announced the donation of about 1200 sq.yards, at his native village, Pottipadu abutting National Highway No. 5, near Gannavaram, to construct Old Age Home / Rest Home for NRIs parents. He also promised to collect and send donations for that purpose.
The activities of the Association started with celebration of Ugadi on 2nd April, 2006. Panchanga Sravanam and dinner were arranged on that occasion. It was also decided to conduct medical health checkup to all the members and their family members.
Members of the association meet once in a month and discuss about the activities and programmes to be taken up and exchange their views.
On Sunday, the 21st January 2007, sugar (fasting and Post Pandrial), BP and eyes testing camp was held with breakfast arranged. Dr. Shri P V Ramana Murthy M.S., F.R.C.S., CEO of Andhra Hospitals, Governerpet, Vijayawada, attended as Chief Guest and inaugurated the camp. Dr. Venkata Ratnam, M.S. (Gen. Surg), Dr. Chandrasekhar, Ophthalmologist, and Dr. Purnachandar Rao, Boppana conducted the tests.
Blood sugar testing strips of Glucometer were sponsored by Chy. Ujwal Sai and Chy. Lasya, son and daughter of Smt. Sita and Chakravarthy, Boppana of Toranto, Cananda, and grandchildren of Smt, and Dr. Poornachandar Rao, Boppana and Smt. and Sri Ramachandra Murthy, Kodali.
Eyes testing devices and technician were arranged by Dr Premchand, Atluri, M.S.D.O., President of the Association.
Smt Leela and Shri Rama Rao, Pinnamaneni sponsored the breakfast.

Another medical checkup camp was held on Sunday, 29th July, 2007. As on earlier occasion, sugar testing strips of Glucometer were sponsored on the name of Chy. Ujwal Sai and Chy. Lasya of Toranto, Canada.
Dr Purnachander Rao Boppana conducted sugar and BP test and tendered useful advice on sugar and BP control and management.

On that day (29th July, 2007), two pairs of uniforms and notebooks were given to each of the 12 students (8 girls and 4 boys) of poor families, studying in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Upper Primary School, near Jammichettu Center, Mogalrajapuram. It was decided to continue to support them with free supply of uniforms and books every year till they complete 10th class. Their studies are being monitored.

Future Programmes
- It has been decided to increase the number gradually every year to reach 100 students from poor families, and encourage and support them to continue their studies till the completion of high school education.
- It has also been decided to conduct medical checkup and health awareness camps periodically in poor peoples' colonies
- Further, it has been decided that in addition to quarerly sugar and BP testing camps, to arrange master/total health checkup to all members and their family members once in a year. First such programme is planned to be conducted and to celebrate the first bi-annual conference of the Association in the month of April 2008, on the occasion of Telugu Ugadi festival.
- And also, to arrange group tours to members and their family members, to pilgrimage centers and tourist attractions like Bhadrachalam, Ramoji Film City etc. It has also been decided to bring out a souvenir on that occasion
Programmes for bi-annual conference:
Following programme has been drawn up for celebrating bi-annual conference of the Assocation:
- Master/Total health checkup to all members and their family members
- Medical checkup and health awareness programmes and other social welfare activities in poor peoples' colonies and destitute homes
- Competitions in various games and skills
- Cultural programmes
- Felicitations and prize distribution
- Breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner to all participants
